Fanfic prompts that work in any fandom
Swap in your characters and press one to send it to the fanfic generator, or keep it for your own writing. Each prompt is built around a moment, because a short fic needs one good scene more than a plot.
The letter
One character finds a letter the other wrote years ago and never sent. They read it in the wrong order.
The storm
Two characters who are not speaking are stuck in the same small place for one night: a cabin, a train, a cell.
The wrong name
Someone calls a character by a name nobody has used since childhood, and only one person in the room knows why.
The morning after
The day after the big battle, the big wedding or the big betrayal. Who makes breakfast, and what do they not say?
The swap
Two characters have to do each other's job for a day. One of them is much better at it than expected.
The reunion
Ten years after canon ends, two characters meet by accident in an ordinary place: a supermarket, an airport, a dentist's waiting room.
The secret skill
The gruffest character can bake, dance or sing beautifully, and someone finally finds out.
The last day
The final day before everything changes: the last day of school, of the war, of the ship's voyage. Write the quiet hours.

Questions
Can I use these fanfic prompts for my own writing?
Yes. They are free to use for fics, writing challenges or a fandom event. You do not need to credit the site.
Do the prompts work for any fandom?
Yes. They are built around situations, not worlds, so they fit books, TV, anime, games and myths. Add one canon detail to make the fic feel like it belongs.
